about

A story about distance, near, far, and that awkward place in between.

lyrics

The Cross-Coastal Tango
Music & Lyrics by Ophelia Baptista
Arrangement by The Gin Rebellion

So here we are again, my friend
Is it in joy or sadness do we meet?
How long have we waited for this time
To embrace and yet still not say a thing?

Through the air, through the wires
I could not look away
As your song played on my heart.
It is clear our intentions don’t reflect our desires
While a continent keeps us apart.

I understand, or at least I think I do
For we are far too much alike
Two thousand miles makes us impossible
To be satisfied by one night

Many years since we’ve met
Of broken dreams and broken hearts
Now silently, awkwardly we reach.
Are our roots so shallow in the state of where we are
We fear falling in the space in between?
And there is so much space in between!

I know that you want me.
You know that I want you.
But as it stands currently,
I cannot follow you
And it’s not fair
No, it’s not fair
How we can’t say the words,
But we know they’re still there.
And I know they’re still there!

So here we are again, my friend
Worry not, for no one’s to blame
We both agree this is the right thing to do
But even that cannot heal the pain

It may be unhealthy, call it what you will,
But do we hurt more by having
Or suspending it still?
And is it all that wise
Denying while gazing into each other’s eyes?
When we know they are lies,
Are we all that surprised?
